After the recent weather bashing, we could all do with spending the next few months seizing all the sun light available to us. Great Lighthouses of Ireland are setting this tone very nicely with their upcoming May bank holiday festival entitled ‘Shine a Light on Summer’, which is taking place from Saturday 5th to Monday 7th of May 2018.
The ‘Shine a Light on Summer’ festival offers everyone a real opportunity to visit a Lighthouse. This is a wonderful chance to observe the technology operating these incredible structures and to meet the people who can share their maritime knowledge and passion for navigation. Great Lighthouses of Ireland website has the specific times and dates for the events on offer at each Lighthouse.
There is also an exciting ‘Great Lighthouse, Great Fun’ photography competition opening on Friday 4th May and closing on Wednesday 20th June. The prize is a personalised Great Lighthouses of Ireland escape including a two-night stay at one of the Great Lighthouses of Ireland self-catering houses.
To enter the competition, post your photo on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook using the hashtag #GreatLighthouseGreatFun
The Lighthouses opening to the public for fun and festivities include Teach Solais Fhánada (Fanad Head Lighthouse) in Co. Donegal, Valentia Island Lighthouse in Co. Kerry, Loop Head Lighthouse in Co. Clare, Hook Lighthouse in Co. Wexford and Rathlin West Light Seabird Centre in Co. Antrim. Over the festival these five great towers of light will open up for family fun, storytelling and knowledge sharing. This privileged access offers a unique opportunity to take amazing photographs of Lighthouses which could offer you the winning edge for your photographic entry!
