Irish Architectural Archive and Maura Shaffrey

Irish Architectural Archive

Hurry or you’ll miss it !!   The Irish Architectural Archive is hosting a  Maura Shaffrey exhibition and it closes tomorrow, Saturday 26th August.

Maura and Patrick married in 1961 and became an unstoppable machine in their quest to transfer their passion for historic buildings and Irish towns into their wonderful publications

  • Buildings of Irish Towns – Treasures of Everyday Architecture (1983) and
  • Irish Countryside Buildings – Everyday Architecture in the Rural Landscape (1985).

These works offer a true testament to the Shaffrey’s combined respect, protection and documentation of buildings and towns throughout Ireland.

The books can be difficult to source but for those interested in learning more, it is very timely that the Irish Architectural Archive at 45 Merrion Square are currently hosting an exhibition of all the original drawings and watercolours created by Maura for these specific publications. The exhibition is a selection of a larger collection of over 120 originals, which the Shaffrey family have donated to the Irish Architectural Archive. This exhibition will be on view until the 26th August and offers a very special insight into Maura’s art practice and beautifully captures her talent at seeing beyond the ordinary.
