A lovely story relating to Tullymurry House greeted us on Friday morning in an email from Richard McMinn. A family bible that belonged to the Marshall family (owners of Tullymurry House back in the 1800s) was returned to the house on Thursday – St. Patrick’s Day 2016.
A woman called Aideen Walsh found the bible in a second hand shop in London many years ago. Her son, Ben, got in contact with us here in Irish Landmark Trust as he believed the bible may have belonged to the Marshalls of Tullymurry. They were helped by local historian, Maud Hamill, to trace it back to Tullymurry House. Maud has done extensive research on the area and its families. Aideen has written a blog post about the whole journey of discovery that is well worth a read can be accessed here.
Great to think that the bible is now back in Tullymurry House after 178 years. Any guests who are interested can check it out in the cabinet in the drawing room!
