Seal near Wicklow Head Lighthouse

Seal near Wicklow Head LighthouseRecent guests at Wicklow Head Lighthouse took this wonderful photo of a local seal. Thank you Michaela and Sven!

Ireland has lots to offer wildlife lovers.

Whale and Dolphin Watching

Close to Galley Head is a prime whale watching spot and close to Loop Head you can go and see the Shannon dolphins.

As we mentioned a bit earlier in the year, we had swallows at one of our Castletown House properties and Triumphal Arch Gate Lodge is terrific for spotting wildlife in Colebrooke Estate. Birds like woodpeckers and kingfishers and animals such as otters and deer are often seen.

Golden Eagles

Donegal is home to the Golden Eagle and the Golden Eagle Trust has details on this magnificent bird and other hawks and birds of prey both in Donegal and around Ireland. Termon House would be a great spot to use as a base for discovering Donegal’s wildlife.

The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group and Birdwatch Ireland are two other organisations whose websites give further information about such wildlife around the country.

As always, these are just a couple of suggestions – happy exploring!
