Philosophy and Practice
As an educational trust we wish to help to give a lead in the practice of conservation and restoration of significant
buildings and in securing their survival. We also aim to maintain (and, where necessary, introduce) the highest standards
of such practice among builders and craftsmen and craftswomen throughout the country.
The Trust's buildings (and budgets) are on the whole modest. It therefore sees itself working most happily in a close arrangement of client (the Trust) and a personally committed conservation architect.
The Trust works for the maintenance of the historical importance of buildings. To this end it subscribes to best practice conservation principles. It also accepts that concern for the survival of the buildings involves a balance - different in each case - of conservation and conversion. In its property conversions ILT aims to achieve the difficult balance of providing modern conveniences without compromising the original internal spaces of the building.
The key element of the project is sustainable development.
